Cognition And Metacognition in Education Lab
- Lab Members and Alumni - CAMEL Lab Director - Dr. Jonathan Tullis - Associate Professor, Educational Psychology - Chair, Cognitive Science Graduate Program - Dr. Tullis focuses on optimizing learning environments by leveraging cognitive strengths and addressing weaknesses to enhance educational outcomes. Dr. Tullis explores topics such as the effectiveness of learning strategies, the impact of divided attention on self-regulated learning, and the integration of artificial intelligence as a tool for education. This work bridges theoretical insights and practical applications to improve teaching and learning practices.
- Current Lab Members - Hosain Heshmati - Ph.D. Student - Hosain studies metacognitive monitoring, a key component of self-regulated learning, to understand how students generate judgments of learning. Additionally, Hosain explore the effectiveness of AI-generated learning strategies across diverse educational settings. - Jiyu Li - Ph.D. Student - Jiyu investigates how memory allows for transferring knowledge and skills to different contexts. Further, he examines how learners strategically regulate their own learning under constraints (e.g., far transfer, complex tasks, multitasking). - Sergio Castro - Ph.D. Student - Muhammad AlKhudair - Ph.D. Student - Muhammad studies the effects of prior knowledge on learning and whether contexts of learning impact the use of that prior knowledge.
- Undergraduate Researchers - Shayla Brooks
Shayla is a senior studying neuroscience and cognitive science. Her research focuses on how study skills are taught, and explores how teaching the neuroscience of learning can help students develop more effective
 study habits.
- Lab Alumni - Di Zhang - Faculty at University of Utah - Sabrina (Yaopeng) Peng - Faculty at Hunnun Normal University - Ang Li - Post-doctoral Research Fellow, Florida State University
